Fishing has played an important role since the Stone Age and is very popular with people of all ages. Thanks to the different possibilities for angling, this recreational activity never gets boring. You fish surrounded by tranquil nature in the midst of forests and meadows in the three holiday resorts on the Hochkönig.
The Dienten stream flows past just behind the Hotel Mitterwirt and at 10 kilometres long in total is ideal for angling. The Dienten stream with its tributaries is a clear, fast flowing mountain stream that has a superb stock of char and trout, all the way to the Salzach. You can get to the Salzach in about 10 minutes by car. The Salzach's unspoilt stretch of shallow water is also ideal for fly fishing.
Information about the territory and fishing licences
You have to have a fishing licence: the Dienten stream and Salzach fishing licence costs €20 per day. A fishing licence just for Dienten stream can be purchased for about €15.
- Dienten stream: Length 10 km, width 10-15 m
- Salzach section: Length 3 km, width 15-30 m
- Stock: Brook trout, rainbow trout, char
- Fishing season: June to October
- Fishing restrictions: 2 fish from the salmon family per day
